Roy Worth Whitney

Roy Worth Whitney, age 87, of Lytle, Texas died November 30, 29023 at Methodist Hospital – Sugar Land in Sugar Land, Texas. Roy was born in Comfort, Texas on December 16, 1935 to parents Milby Emma Camille Stieler Whitney and Herman Worth Whitney.


Roy grew up in Lytle, Texas and attended Lytle High School. After high school, Roy joined the Navy along with two boyhood friends. After basic training, Roy was stationed in Guam as a Communications Operator during the end of the Korean War. Later, after serving proudly for nearly two years, he decided to join the Naval Reserves which allowed him to go to college at South West Texas University in San Marcos, Texas to study accounting. While studying at SWT, he met Anita Greathouse. Within months they were married on December 20, 1958. Within a year they welcomed Karen Marie Whitney in 1959, Jarel Craig Whitney in 1963, Laura Jo Whitney Fereira in 1966 and Elizabeth Anita Whitney in 1974. After graduation from SWT, Roy went to work for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) until his retirement in 1997. Roy retired from the Navy Reserves in 1982, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Commander. In addition, of leaving behind four children, Roy has three grandchildren, Anita MacKay Whitney, 20, Joshua Worth Whitney, 18 and Bruce Michael Fereira, 13. Roy is also survived by his brothers and sisters Cullen Whitney, Hazel Thurston, Betty Faye Appelt and Troy Whitney along with nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors. Roy enjoyed his volunteer work with Mended Hearts, a charity for heart patients, Texas German Society and Texas Archaeology Society. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, December 12, 2023 at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veteran’s Memorial Dr., Houston, Texas 77038. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am and services will start at 12:30 pm. On Thursday, December 14, 2023 the body will be transported to Lytle, Texas. On Friday, December 15, 2023 funeral services will be held at Lytle First Baptist Church at 10 am, then travel to Lytle Cemetery for burial and remembrance.
