Lytle JV XC makes believers at River City; Lady Pirates champs, Pirates 3rd

The JV Pirate Cross Country team were crowned champions at the River City Believers Invitational Saturday in San Antonio while the Lady Pirates also impressed garnering a third place finish.


“We are starting to get toward the end of the season with the Poth meet next week being our last one before district,” stated Head Coach Gilbert Ruiz as he looks ahead to finding those top seven runners to make the varsity list.
Isabella Sewell and Addison Wagner paced six Lady Pirates as they placed 6th and 7th respectively out of 81 runners that began the race. Sewell ran 13:37 with Wagner right on her heels at 13:39.
Kimora Sanchez (12th-14:24), Annika Robles (13th-14:26), Payton Devaney (38th-16:16), and Avery Sanchez (47th-17:14) also competed.
Nathan Garza and Kaden Aguinaga set personal records according to Ruiz as both runners finished in the top 15 out of 78 participants. Lytle scored 105 points behind Cornerstone’s 24-point championship performance and runner-up San Antonio Christian who finished with 73.
Garza came in 13th place with a time of 18:24 while Aguinaga was 15th with a time of 18:30.
Jaden Castro (24th-19:05), Andres Rodriguez (26th-19:16), and Daniel Mercado (35th-19:43) rounded out the remaining Pirate runners.
