Freshman Horses clip Owls 15-6

Hondo struck first with a first quarter touchdown with 0:40 left in the first quarter in last Thursday’s ballgame. Those were the Owls last points of the game as the Horses stormed back to take the 15-6 lead.
Devine’s defense stepped to the plate first, securing two-points on a safety in the second quarter. The 6-2 baseball-type score held up through halftime.
Brayden Reyes and Tony Saldivar strung together a couple of nice runs to set up Reyes for the Horses first official touchdown late in the third quarter. Devine took their first lead into the fourth quarter as Reyes’s score put the Horses up 8-6 with 7-seconds left to go in the third.
Devine’s defense came up big once again in the fourth quarter as Hector Bernal intercepted an Owl pass and returned it for a touchdown. Joseph Stafford booted the extra point to provide the final 15-6 margin.
“The boys played tough all night. We will need to do a better job blocking offensively if we want to win this week against Hondo. Running backs Brayden Reyes, Tony Saldivar, Edward Perez, and Jason Ramirez did a good job running the ball and our defense was outstanding all night,” Coach Juan Gonzalez stated.
