Robert “Bob” Allen Sample

It’s not what you take when you leave this world behind you, it’s what you leave behind you when you go- and what a legacy Bob has left behind.
Robert “Bob” Allen Sample was born September 12, 1943, in Robstown, Texas to Victor L. Sample and Lola Faye Harper.

After attending Tuloso Midway High School in Corpus Christi, he joined the Air Force in 1961, a decision that shaped his life in more ways than one. On November 14, 1962, while stationed in Amarillo, he met his wife of 52 years, Deloris Del Guthrie, and they married a short 2 months later on January 26, 1963.
And then this Texas Cowboy and Georgia Peach went on to create what Bob would “lovingly” refer to as “this mess” which includes Shellie Sample (Ken), Rick Sample (Laurie), Renee Frieda (Bobby), Cherie McBee (Roy) and Kevin Sample (Nicola).
In the quiet moments amidst “the mess”, Bob also loved planting flowers within the changing landscape of his rock garden, reading books ranging from L’Amour to Longfellow and collecting music of all genres.
Children and animals were drawn to his kind spirit, especially his 20 grandchildren: Bryan Mattson (Shannon), Rachel Sample (Richard), Jordan Jungman (Jessika), Bobbi Frieda, Zachary Jungman, Case Frieda (Kyrsten), Jason Jungman (Katie), William Pohle (Jakki), Ty Stiefer, Ross Sample, Troy Sample, Jessica Stiefer, Jack Pohle, Brendan McBee, Justin Walter, Matthew Walter, Dustin Walter, Cord Lassere, Riley McBee and Rawson McBee.
Bob also had 12 great grandchildren and 4 great great grand children.
Bob passed away on April 15, 2024 and is preceded in death by the love of his life, Dee, and his siblings Victor Lee Sample, Donald Ray Sample and Lenora Faye Krawietz.
A celebration of life will be held on this Friday, April 19 at 11:00 a.m. at Black Creek Baptist Church, 798 County Road 660, Devine, Texas 78016.
He loved giving his wife Dee rose bushes instead of cut flowers on special occasions, as he “Didn’t like wasting money, he would rather spend money on things that would give and give”.
Please consider plants or a donation to Wings and Reigns, 114 County Road 7866, Devine, TX 78016.
