Change of bylaws in Medina County Republican Party sparks concern, meeting will be PUBLIC after all

ANOTHER UPDATE: The meeting has been changed to a PUBLIC meeting once again, so all are welcome to attend. This announcement was made late in the afternoon yesterday, Thursday Feb 1. In addition, the Medina County Republican party dropped the challenge on precinct chair members Jerry Beck and Mireya Vanderslice.

In a post the morning of Feb 1, the Medina County Republican Party chair had stated that the meeting would now be a closed session and that Beck and Vanderslice “are not authorized to attend this closed meeting”, but they have since changed their stance.

The Medina County Republican Party’s monthly meeting is scheduled for February 5, 2024 at 6:30pm, tentatively scheduled at the MCRP Head Quarters located at 1706 Ave M, Hondo, Texas.

Among many topics to be discussed includes a recent change in the Medina County Republican Party bylaws regarding endorsements.
According to the updated bylaws on their website, in article XIII, it states “During a Primary MCEC will only endorse one political candidate for each seat.”
Furthermore it states, “If a candidate who failed to receive an endorsement by the MCEC is selected during the primary, the MCEC has the right to refuse endorsement of that candidate in the general election.”
Previously, the local Republican Party has remained neutral in the primaries, and in the General Election, the local party supported whichever Republican candidate won the Primaries.
