Arabians win back-to-back games, sights set on playoff run

The Arabians have closed out pre-district 18-7, and this Friday at Brooks Academy, the Arabians will open district and start their road to playoffs. Also, in the district is Fox Tech, Somerset, and YWLA, and the Arabians have their eyes on thetop seat for playoffs.
December 28th, the Arabians took down Pearsall 37-26. “We got off to a quick start in the first quarter and we did a good job of forcing turnovers and tough shots early in the game and that allowed us to get out and run and get into transition. In the second quarter, however, we got into some foul trouble and lost our rhythm. In the second half, we struggled to find out pace, but we did a good job of holding Pearsall to small scoring quarters in the second half as we struggled to find our offense. Ultimately, we were able to come away with the win,” said Coach Jim Sessions

The Javelinas were able to challenge the Arabians and keep up with their pace. “We were able to sustain our intensity and play at our pace. The girls did a good job of getting Crystal City out of their press, and we moved the ball well vs their zone offense. We did a good job on the boards and got lots of second chance opportunities. It was a good win to close out 2021!” added Coach Sessions.
Leading Devine was Yessika Garza, who earned a double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds!

In a pick up game against Laredo United South Monday night, Devine “really struggled on the offensive end vs their pressure defense. United South did a good job of forcing us into tough shots, and when we got good shots, we struggled to knock them down. Defensively, we struggled to keep them out of the paint. We had spells where we played well, but Laredo United South kept us off balance and on our heels most of the game. Despite the loss, I feel that we were able to gain some insight to things we need to improve on going forward. I think we can learn a lot from this game,” said Coach Sessions. Stats were not available at time of press. Devine will be in Somerset this Friday and back at home of January 11th to face Fox Tech.
