With school starting on August 26th, the athletes will be starting two-a-days for volleyball, football, and cross country. UIL sets the starting dates of practice and each athletes must have a physical completed before they are allowed to practice.
Last year, Coach Leigh Ann McIver, lead her volleyball players to a 23-17 record and winning Area. This year with she will have most of her varsity returning and a great chance take her team even further this season. According to UIL rules, the volleyball players can start practice on August 1st. The Arabians will scrimmage against the Alumni on August 3rd, Hondo August 6th, and their first tournament in Columbus. The Varsity Arabians will compete in three tournaments this season including the 17th Annual Arabian Round Up on August 15-17th. District starts October 1st against Carrizo Springs. Coach McIver will be assisted by Kailee Ramirez and Kailyn Rotramel.
The Cross Country runners will have their first practice at 6:30 am, August 1st, at Warhorse Stadium. The runners will be coached by Jerel Beaty and their first meet will be Wednesday August 21st in Devine and district will also be held in Devine on October 16.
“This season presents new challenges for each of the runners and for me. We are going to hit the ground running and do our best everyday to make sure long term goals are not only met but exceeded,” Coach Beaty said.
The first day of conditioning for the Warhorse football team is August 5th with full contact starting August 10th according to UIL. The Warhorses will scrimmage against Bandera on August 16th and Navarro on August 22nd. Led by Coach Paul Gomez, the Warhorses will play in 5 pre-district game before district starts October 11th against Hondo. Homecoming is November 1st against Poteet.
Assisting Coach Gomez is PJ Wells Offensive Coordinator, George Villa Defensive Coordinator, Scott Taylor Special Teams, and Devin Rotramel, Heath Poppe, Scott Taylor, Evan Eads, Bart Oropeza, Juan Gonzalez, Lon Cozby, Quenton Sanders, Jacob Sanchez as assistant coaches.
