JV Horses top Randolph 37-12 for second win of the season

The JV Horses improved their record to 2-1 on the season after defeating Randolph 37-12 last Thursday at Warhorse Stadium. Elijah Sanchez scored three touchdowns for Devine in the lopsided victory.
“Offense executed very well,” said Coach Heath Poppe. “The offensive line did an amazing job opening some holes for our running backs and we only had one turnover, and that was late in the fourth quarter. The athletes are really starting to gel as a unit and that is fun to watch. Defensively, the players did an amazing job recognizing sets and playing. They got into some unbalanced formations where we had to shift and the D-line did a great job moving so we would not get outflanked.”
Devine’s Elijah Sanchez scored his first touchdown of the night on a six-yard run. After Caden Hanson kicked the extra point the Horses took an early 7-0 lead. Randolph answered quickly on a 60-yard scoring strike after converting a 3rd and 13 on a halfback pass. They missed their point after so the Horses remained in the lead at 7-6.
Sanchez scored again on a 3-yard run on the first play of the second quarter. Brandon Martinez ran in the two-point conversion. Running back Jonathon Weinkam had a huge 25-yard run to set up the score.
Hanson snuck in the end zone from two yards out and Weinkam added another two-point run to boost Devine’s lead to 23-6 with 2:38 left in the half.
The Horses first half scoring was not yet compete as Weinkam added a touchdown run of 27 yards after Blain Davis recovered a Ro-Hawk fumble on the ensuing kickoff. Hanson connected on the extra point to give Devine a huge 30-6 lead going into the break.
Sanchez scored his 3rd and final touchdown of the night on a 70-yard fumble recovery midway through the third. Hanson once again connected on the point after to finish out Devine’s 37-point scoring outburst.
Thanks, Pop!
I extend my sincere appreciation to Coach Poppe for relaying game details on nights I am not available to watch the JV play their game. There are two Coach Pops around the area, and I can honestly say I like this one…
