Hwy. 173 to receive seal coat between Devine and Hondo

Hwy 173 has seen many repairs beginning last year, but it is in pretty good shape now. Hwy 173 from Devine to Hondo is scheduled to receive the Seal Coat sometime toward the end of this week or beginning of next week.
Back around September, crews did the seal coat from Devine towards Jourdanton, and it has held up nicely.

As residents know repairs have been ongoing due to the large amount of heavy traffic coming from the quarry in Hondo thru Devine and into the Eagle Ford Shale. The shallow repairs weren’t holding up to the huge pot holes that had developed, so this March the contractor for TxDot did several long, 8” deep pavement repairs.
The highway received deep repairs, and then fine repairs to level it all out are done shortly before the seal coat which should keep things in good shape until the complete rehab which is years away.
Back in February, Laura Lopez, PIO officer for TxDot stated that TxDot will be doing “a study on the entire SH 173 corridor from US 90 to I-35 that will look at a Prioritization plan to address the pavement needs, shoulder widening, passing lanes, any needed left turn lanes and right turn lanes, and bridge widening.”
