“In October I had the great pleasure of volunteering a few hours to the Brenda Krahn Decker Memorial Golf Tournament which was held at the Alsatian Golf Course in Castroville, TX,” said Patricia Hargrove, Chairperson of Medina County Relay For Life 2020.
“This was the 9th Annual Tournament and 8th Memorial to Jennifer Griffin’s mother, Brenda a local Cancer warrior who lost her battle with Cancer 8 years ago. The Team was a participant of the Medina County Relay years ago when Brenda was diagnosed and began her fight. When she passed Jennifer and her mother’s best friend were determined to continue the fundraising tournament to help raise money for ACS on behalf of Medina County. Every year the family and friends have hosted the golf tournament and donate all money raised to the American Cancer Society under the umbrella of Medina County, which was home to her mother.

“For the 2019 MC Relay Event this past April, the Brenda Krahn Decker Memorial Golf Tournament accounted for 50% of all funds raised; somewhere in the range of $12 – $15,000 dollars. Last year Jennifer and her team wanted to “Pay It Forward” and decided to choose a Local Cancer Survivor to present them with a $1,000.00 from the proceeds to help with medical expenses and such. This year the Donation went to Baby Victor – a Medina County local 10 month old baby boy who was diagnosed with a form of Intraocular Cancer (cancer in the eyes). The focus on honoring her mother is immense. The support was amazing to witness,” said Hargrove.
