James Fleming was named chief of the Natalia Police Department during a Special Natalia City Council meeting held last Friday, July 24.
“He’s very well-qualified,” Mayor Tommy Ortiz said. “We were very pleased with his interview and the things he’s already accomplished.”
Ortiz said he was pleased with the number of applicants the City received for the position, and that the Council interviewed between 10 and 12 of them.
Fleming replaces former chief Glenn Barrow, who resigned on May 27. Fleming served as a reserve officer for Natalia PD under Barrow.
A ceremonial swearing-in will be held during the next Council meeting, scheduled for Monday, August 17.
