Fillys XC runs out of the gate

Devine Middle School Fillys began their 2019 season running in Hondo at the city’s golf course last Saturday morning. As the temperature started to rise, the Fillys performed extremely well for many of the runner’s first time to compete in a Cross Country invitational.
Bright spots included the 7th grade 2nd place, 50-point finish that trailed only team champion LaVernia by 10 points. Airyanna Rodriguez finished 4th overall with a time of 15:03 while Kourtni Geyer placed 8th with a 15:43. AnnaCale Harrison also finished in the top 20 at 17th with a time of 17:15.
Lynn Lawler (21st-17:39) and Jilliyn Guajardo (24th-18:04) comprised the Fillys 50-point total. In fact, out of 68 runners in the event, no 7th Filly finished outside of the top 35%. That is quite an accomplishment by itself.
8th grade Filly Katelyn Joslin led her team finishing 3rd overall with a time of 14:48. Madison Spicer (28th-17:16), Catelyn Flores (36th-17:27), Makenzie Flores (37th-17:31), and Serenity Whitaker (41st-17:43) scored 95 points as a team to determine the Fillys’ 4th place team placement.
