County to remove weigh station buildings to clear way for 24-hour coverage

Medina County commissioners agreed to foot the bill to remove buildings at the IH-35 weigh stations in order to clear the way for larger ones during the commissioners court meeting last Thursday, June 18.
County Judge Chris Schuchart said that DPS had approached the county about the issue a month or two ago.
“They want to put in bigger buildings down on the I-35 weigh station, and they’re going to man them seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day, so that’s really good for us,” Schuchart said. “If they’re there all day long every day, the revenues will go up significantly from where they’re already at, and they’re already at $500,000 a year.”
Schuchart estimated the cost to remove the current buildings at between $30,000 and $35,000, and said that DPS will provide the new buildings as well as hire 16 new employees to staff it.
