Arabians bring home 2nd

The Arabians had a great showing at the Natalia tournament this last weekend. Tying Natalia and beating La Vernia, D’Hanis, and Southwest, the Arabians brought home 2nd place and increased their record to 8-2.
Opening against Natalia in their home tournament, the Arabians earned the first run in the bottom of the 2nd when Mackenzie Schneider walks and then steals 2nd. She then rounded home after a bunt from Megan Runyan and an error from 3rd baseman. 1-0. Natalia would tie the game up and was awarded the win because they had one more runner reach 2nd than Devine. Natalia would go on to win the tournament.
Schneider 1 double, 1 run, 2 steals. Hilary Barnett 71 pitches with 52 strikes.
In their second game against La Vernia, Devine denied the Bears any runs and won the game 7-0. Top of the 2nd, Allyson Taylor singles, Dasslyn Coronado in for Taylor, Schneider walked, Runyan singles and Coronado scores the first run. Dawn Morris hits a ground ball and reaches 3rd on errors allowing Schneider and Runyan to score, 3-0. 1 out, Jeanette Rios doubles and Morris scores, 4-0. J. Rios steals 3rd and then scores on an error, 5-0. Top of the 3rd, Mackenzie McCle llan doubles to left, Brooklyn Miller in for McClellan, Taylor doubles to left, Denise Contreras in for Taylor, Schneider singles and Miller and Contreras both score, 7-0.
Taylor1 single, 1 double. Miller 1 run, Schneider 1 single, 2 RBI, 1 run. J. Rios 1 double, 1 RBI, 1 run, 1 steal. Morris 1 double, 2 RBI, 1 run. Arieana Ramirez 1 single. Gutierrez 1 single. Contreras 2 runs, 2 steals. Runyan 1 single, 1 RBI, 1 run. McClellan 1 double, 47 pitches with 31 strikes.
Against D’Hanis, the Arabians allowed 1 run but answered with 6 runs to win the game. Top of the 1st with 1 out, J. Rios and Gutierrez on base, Ramirez grounds out but J. Rios scored. McClelland and Taylor double and Angelina Rios score, 2-0. Top of the 3rd, 2 outs, J. Rios and Gutierrez on base again, Taylor singles and J. Rios scored, 3-0. Schneider doubled to left and Gutierrez and Contreras add 2 more runs to Devine’s lead, 5-0. D’Hanis’ only run came in the bottom of the 3rd. Top of the 6th, 2 outs and Hilary Barnett on 2nd and Gutierrez on 1st, Ramirez hits a pop fly and reaches on an error while Barnett scores, 6-1.

In the final game of the tournament, the Arabians faced off against Southwest High School and won 5-2. Southwest took the lead in the bottom of the 1st but the Arabians answered and then held them for the win. Top of the 2nd, with 1 out, Taylor on 3rd, Schneider on 2nd, and Morris on 1st, Coronado walked forcing Taylor home, 1-2. A. Rios hits a ground ball and Schneider scored to tie the game. Top of the 3rd, with 2 outs and Ramirez on 2nd and McClellan on 1st, Schneider singled allowing the quick A. Ramirez to get around to home, 3-2. Top of the 4th, again with 2 out, Barnett on 2nd, Gutierrez singles on a line drive and Barnett scores, 4-2. Gutierrez reaches 2nd when Ramirez singles and then Gutierrez scores when McClellan singles to center. Devine wins 5-2.

The Arabians played Cornerstone Christian last night and will take on Navarro March 16th at 6:30pm. They will play at home against Pleasanton on March 23rd at 7:00pm.
