Lady Pirates battle the ‘Stangs in great match

Lytle Pirate #11 Rose Scotello sets middle #10 Fizz Hutton

The Lady Pirates doubled down on tough opponents last week including their district rival, Natalia. Now 1-7 in district, the Varsity still has time to turn their season around. Pirates will return to action Tuesday, September 21st in Cotulla then back at home Friday, September 24th against SA West Campus (only varsity game @ 5pm) to end the first round of district.
Tuesday night in Dilley, the Varsity Pirates took on their fifth district opponent of the season. Winning the first set 26-24, Lytle fought hard for every point. “We had 9 aces and 26 kills for the entire match, unfortunately our errors would get the best of us and we gave up 3 sets to lose to the Lady Wolves,” said Coach Denise Cordero. The game ended 1-3 with the Wolves on top at 26-24, 13-25, 19-25, and 14-25. “The girls are coming around and looking better and better each week,” added Coach Cordero.

The Lytle Lady Pirates battled the Lady Mustangs in the rivalry matchup this past September 17. “Our Pirates played with heart, desire and lots of determination against the Mustang of Natalia, and although we lost in three sets, the score does not reflect how well these ladies played and came together after Aleman #7 went down with a knee injury early in the first set. Lopez #1 stepping up filling in as a setter,” said Coach Cordero.
Down 17-25 and 11-25 after the first two sets, the Pirates turned it around in the third. “Our Pirates had to readjust our strategy to work together to battle the ‘Stangs. Going into the third set, teamwork and trust kept our Pirates giving the ‘Stangs a run for their money but serving errors ended our fight, losing 23-25,” Cordero adds.
