Contractors will be working on replacing some of the water lines with asbestos in certain areas of the City of Devine, mostly near the Elementary, Intermediate, Middle School and High Schools over the next 3 weeks starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2024 causing interruptions in the water service in affected areas such as the schools and surrounding neighborhoods. See listed of affected areas and streets below that will have water interruptions.

Those affected in the areas and streets listed below will need to boil water before drinking/consuming during the period of interruption for at least three weeks, from January 27 through February 16, or until the construction of the replacement lines are complete and water samples tested and a notice of water boil is rescinded.
“We are trying to get out information ahead of time and communicate with the citizens so they can be aware and prepare,” said Mayor Butch Cook. “Also please check on your neighbors and help spread the word that water will need to be boiled before consuming during the replacement of these lines,” he said. “Is is an unfortunate part of the process of getting new water lines.”

Most of the water interruptions, where citizens will not have any water, will happen during the weekdays, Monday through Friday in the afternoons from 3:30 p.m. until the water is turned back on by the contractors (Qro Mex), when they finish for the evening.

But on Saturdays it will be during the daytime hours of 10:00 am until 5:30 p.m. that the water cut offs will occur.

Sunday, the water will not be interrupted.

All throughout the 3 week period the water will need to be boiled for human consumption.

The affected areas that will have Water Interruptions are the following:
Devine ISD Schools
Cardinal Drive & Virginia
Cardinal Drive Hwy 173
Freedom & Atkins Avenue
Atkins Avenue & Benson Drive
Littleton Drive
Dove Avenue & Eagle Drive
Dove & Cardinal Drive
Eagle Drive
Hall Street
There may be areas of Devine affected that we are not aware of.
The Warhorse water tower services the affected areas as well as other parts of Devine. But only the lines that service these areas and neighborhoods near the Devine school campuses will have their valves shut off during the replacement of these lines.
“There may be areas of Devine affected that we are not aware of. Customers in these areas are advised to prepare for the 21 day water service interruption that they will be experiencing,” said David Johnson, City of Devine Administrator.
“All other avenues have been explored and this method is our most expeditious avenue for getting water restored to our community”, Johnson said.
All of this is part of the 9.9 million dollar Waterline Replacement Project (Asbestos) of the City of Devine.
“Due to the Waterline Replacement and the disinfecting of the pipes, we are asking customers to Boil Water before consuming. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” said Johnson.
