Jordan Allan McDavitt

Jordan Allan McDavitt was born to be a cowboy. He learned to ride a horse before he could walk. He rode rocking horses, stick horses and ponies when he was a little boy. He loved them all.
On Sunday evening, May 7, 2017, he went to take care of his beloved horses and passed away, doing what gave him so much joy, tending to his horses.
His parents, Jerome Alleyne McDavitt and Kathryn Jordan McDavitt were living in San Antonio when Jordan was born on July 25, 1938. He spent his early years in Marfa where his grandparents lived. In 1956, Jordan graduated from Marfa High School. After his high school graduation he attended Texas A & M University. He joined the United States Air Force and served his country for four years.
It was while he was in military that he met his future bride, Jan Hughes. They were married on August 12, 1960 in Nashville, Tennessee. The young couple made their home in Nashville where Jordan worked at various places. Jordan loved Texas and missed living there. When he returned to Texas to attend his father’s funeral in 1982, he interviewed for a job at Luckey Feed Lot. He got the job and moved to Central Texas. Jan stayed in Tennessee until she could sell their home and then joined him in Texas with their children.
Jordan worked at Luckey Feed Lot for thirty years, retiring as their accountant. He came out of retirement to serve as financial director for the City of Castroville. He served in that capacity for a few years and retired again. He then became “Papa’s Daycare and Taxi Service” for his grandchildren. He would pick up his grandchildren after school and take care of them while their parents worked.
