Warhorses go 3-1 at Bandera tournament

In their final tournament of the season, the Warhorse won three of their four games last weekend. Devine opened their tournament play with a win over 6-2 win over Jefferson High School. The Warhorses took the lead in the bottom of the first and added another run in the second but Jefferson answered with a run in each the third and fourth innings to tie the game at 2-2. In the bottom of the fifth, the Warhorses were able to score four runs for the lead and win.
Devine scoring plays: Bottom of the first, with two on, Truett Barron singled a ground ball and Dalton Kramer scores. Bottom of the second, Chad Lawson hit a triple and then Clayton Brown ground out while Lawson scored. Bottom of the fifth, with two outs and bases loaded, Kramer hit a ground ball and made it to first after an error by the second baseman while Isaiah Oropeza and Newt Crouch score. Kramer makes it to second on an error and Barron hits a line drive to center allowing Crouch and Kramer to score.
Oropeza 1 run, 1 hit. Crouch, 1 run, 1 hit. Kramer 2 runs. Barron 2 hits, 3 RBIs. Lawson 1 run, 1 hit. Brown 1 run, 1 RBI. Blaine Miller 1 hit. Pitchers Barron threw 58 strikes in 99 pitches and Evan Priest threw 6 strikes in 10 pitches.
In their second game last Friday, Devine beat Holy Cross 4-1. Devine’s scoring plays: Bottom of the third with runners on first and third, Justin Contreras came in to run for Brown and then Contreras stole third while Miller was batting. Miller hit a line drive to right and Brady Harrell scored. Crouch hit a single and Contreras scored. Miller on second and Crouch on first, Kramer hit a single and Miller scores. Bottom of the fourth, with Lawson on first, Harrell hit a line drive to left and Lawson scored.
Crouch 2 hits, 1 RBI. Kramer 1 hit, 1 RBI. Lawson 1 run, 2 hits. Harrell 1 run, 2 hits, 1 RBI. Brown 1 hit. Miller 1 run, 2 hits, 1 RBI. Contreras 1 run. Pitchers Harrell threw 9 strikes in 18 pitches, Priest 11 strikes in 28 pitches, Kramer 34 strikes in 61 pitches.
Playing in their third game of the day, the Warhorses lost 3-7 to South San Antonio. Devine scoring plays: top of the fourth, 2 outs and Kramer on second, Harrell singled and Kramer flew around the bases home. Runyan walked and Harrell is on second when Joseph Guajardo singled a line drive and Harrell scores. Top of the fifth. Crouch scores on a passed ball for Devine’s final run.
Crouch 1 run, 1 hit. Kramer 1 run, 1 hit. Barron 1 hit. Lawson 1 hit. Harrell 1 run, 3 hits, 1 RBI. Guajardo 2 hits, 1 RBI. Pitchers Contreras 16 strikes in 29 pitches, and Oropeza 33 strikes in 60 pitches.
In their final game of the tournament on Saturday, the Warhorses won big 12-4 over Edison. Devine opened the game with 8 runs in the first inning and Edison did not have a chance to catch up. Top of the first with one out and Guajardo on first, Kramer hit a triple to bring home Guajardo. Crouch was nest up to bat and he hit a double to allow Kramer to run home. 2 outs, and Harrell on first, Lawson on second, and Crouch on third, Crouch stole home while Runyan is at bat and then Runyan walks. Bases loaded and Miller hits a single to left, Harrell and Runyan score. Seguin steals home from third and Miller steals second while Oropeza is batting. Oropeza hits a triple to left and Miller scores. Guajardo single and Oropeza scores. Top of the fourth, Kramer stole home and then Crouch stole home when Harrell was at bat. 2 outs, Brown walks, Seguin on second, and Lawson on third. Miller singled to center, Lawson and Seguin score. Game ends 12-4 after four innings.

The Warhorses will have their first district game at home March 19 against Carrizo Springs and then play in Crystal City March 22nd. Currently they are 8-5 for the season.
