Warhorse powerlifting puts on strong performance

The Devine Warhorse powerlifting squad competed at Texas Strength System last Thursday afternoon and came home with three Top 3 finishes. The Warhorses compete next week once again at TSS, which is also their final meet and chance to qualify for the regional meet in Bishop on March 8.
“There was quality competition from all over Region 5,” stated Head Coach Paul Gomez. “Our young lifters keep getting better and improving, which is key for their long-term goals. Garret Carver and Deme Monreal got 2nd in their weight classes.
Garret’s class is competitive and his placing came down to the last lift to see who got first or second. Garret has lots of improvement to go and once I get him the right squat suit, he will get a 30-40lb. increase in his total and Deme has been improving steadily.
We placed 5th as a team. We have one more opportunity to get into the Top 12, so our boys have two weeks to make their lifting goals.
Kaleb Zertuche, Deme, Garret and Diego Hernandez are all challenging for regional spots; you never know what surprises may arrive. It is exciting to see the progress we are making.”
