NJHS Mustangs open season against Lytle

Mother Nature forced the Natalia Junior High Mustangs to push their season opener back one day last week. Despite a soggy Friday afternoon and the change of plans when it came to game day, the boys in blue managed to split their opening event. The 7th Grade Mustangs were impressive, as they picked up a 34-14 victory. Unfortunately for the 8th grade boys in blue, they fell to the black and gold 35-6.

Natalia set the tone in their opening drive and on their opening play of the season, as Luis Buentello raced 60 yards for the Natalia touchdown. This was one of four touchdowns scored on the day by Buentello.
Natalia’s Sony Rymers added an additional touchdown, as Paul Zapata added two, two point conversion attempts.
“We were very proud of the effort and the finish by this 8th grade group,” stated the NJH Coaching staff.

The black and gold were able to keep the Mustangs contained the majority of the night, as Kevin Rey Gutierrez scored the lone touchdown for Natalia on an impressive 80 yard run.
“We were a bit disappointed in the outcome, but we didn’t quit and we were proud of the effort put forth,” stated the NJH Coaching staff.
