Mustangs fall to Jourdanton


The Jourdanton Indians struck early and often and were able to hold on versus the Natalia Mustangs during their 26-3A opener last Friday night in Natalia. Jourdanton was able to out-hit the Mustangs 11-5 en route to a 9-6 victory.
Jourdanton struck in their opening at bat, as they scored three runs thanks to three singles, and two hit batters. They would add two additional runs in the top of the 2nd, thanks to another hit batter, one single and one double.
Natalia broke loose with a run of their own in the bottom of the 2nd. After watching Caden Fregia get on thanks to a single, he scored thanks to a Gomez single and a SAC bunt by Wyatt Woodson.
Jourdanton added a pair of runs in the top of the 3rd, thanks to two singles, a base on balls and a fly-out. They would add two final runs in the top of the 5th, thanks to three singles and two walks allowing them to hold a 9-1 lead vs Natalia.
The Mustangs were able to attempt a rally in the bottom of the 6th. Natalia scored four runs, thanks to a base on balls by Matt Contreras, a single by Uriel Arellano, a single by Diego Zapata, a single by Isaiah Gomez, a Woodson walk and a hit batter.
The boys in blue scored one final run in the 7th, as AJ Felker got on thanks to a single and scored thanks to one passed ball, and two ground-outs. Unfortunately, it was not enough as Jourdanton held on for a 9-6 victory.
Once again during this game, Natalia went through four pitchers. Zapata pitched 1.0, allowed five hits, five runs and walked one. Contreras pitched 3.1, allowed four hits, four runs (two earned), struck out one and walked two. Peter Billalobos pitched .2, allowed one hit and walked three. Ruiz pitched 2.0, allowed one hit, struck out three and walked one.

Upcoming Games
The Mustangs were on the road on press night battling the Karnes City Badgers. Natalia will then be open until Friday, April 6th when they host the Poth Pirates in town for a 7:00 p.m. game.
