After seven innings, the JV2 Warhorses tied McCollum 9-9 on Saturday. McCollum earned 18 hits while Devine earned only 9. With a 1-2-1 record, the JV2 team only has one game left on April 22nd against Medina Valley.
Bottom of the first, down 0-2, bases loaded with Brady Hackebeil on third, Sage Cruz on second, and Kannon Ramirez on first, Christian Gerlach hit a double to right and Hackebeil and Cruz score. Carlos Gutierrez was next up to bat and he hit a single to bring home Ramirez. Gerlach then stole home and Devine ended the inning 4-2. McCollum took the lead back in the top of the second 5-4. Bottom of the second, 2 outs, Gus Puente on third, Hackebeil on second, Cruz on first, and Gerlach at bat, Puente and Hackebeil stole home and Cruz was caught stealing to end the inning 6-5. In the fourth inning McCollum took the lead again 7-6 but Mason Martinez and Puente stole home late in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead back at 8-7. Again McCollum took the lead 8-9 in the fifth. Bottom of the sixth, two outs, and Ramirez at bat, Puente steals home again to tie the game. The game ended 9-9 after no one scored in the seventh.
Hackebeil 2 runs, 2 hits, 2 stolen bases. Cruz 1 run, 1 hit. Gerlach 1 run, 3 hits, 2 RBIs, 1 stolen base. Gutierrez 2 hit, 1 RBI. Ramirez 1 run. Joey Blanquiz 1 hit. Martinez 1 run, 1 stolen base. Puente 3 runs, 2 hits, 5 stolen bases. Gerlach threw 31 strikes in 50 pitches. Gutierrez threw 31 strikes in 38 pitches. Blanquiz threw 16 strikes in 26 pitches.
