JV Warhorses finish 3rd in District track meet

The JV Warhorse track team competed well throughout the District 29-4A track meet last Wednesday and Thursday in Devine but came up short on overall points to finish behind Hondo and Carrizo Springs.
There were several bright spots. Matthew Madrid won first in High Jump and Xavier Contreras won first in Pole Vault. Peyton Carr, Hunter Nowicki, and Sage Cruz earned second place honors in their respective events while Andy Cordova, Nowicki, and Matthew Spicer won bronze medals in theirs.
“Of the four track teams that we have at the high school level, this one is our smallest group in terms of number of participants,” said Head Coach Lon Cozby. “For us coaches to be able to roll out 15 or so athletes and finish third is a huge accomplishment for these guys. We were all impressed with their guts and determination to do their absolute best.”
