Freshmen Arabians battle Wimberley, Marion

Last Tuesday night, the Freshman Arabians lost to Wimberley 1-2. They came out strong and aggressive against the Texans and won 19-25. Great communication and strong teamwork was the key to winning the match against their strong opponents. Cece Martinez and Dylan Reyna each had two aces and Darian Alvarez and Lacey Shook each had a kill.
But it was in the second set that Wimberley took control and beat the Freshmen 11-25. The third set was a close game with the Arabians fighting hard as a team only losing the match 23-25. This loss was a tough experience for the young team but they never let the pressure get to them and they fought to the very end. Aleyna Gerlach scored a kill and Shook and Reyna scored two aces.
“I am proud of how they adapted to change and were willing to play through it. Unfortunately, we took our first tough loss on Tuesday. I believe the girls took a lot away from this game and will face the challenges head on next game,” said Coach Kimberly Lane.
It took a match for the freshman team to wake up against Marion last Friday but when they did they controlled the court. They lost the first match 21-25 but in the second match they were on fire and won 25-6. Marion didn’t stand a chance in the final match and the Arabians finished them off 15-6. “I am proud of the strong comeback and the ability to play through a tough first set loss. Looking forward, the Arabians will have to come out ready to play from the start,” said Coach Lane.
Kaydi Yeats had 3 kills, Gerlach 1, Shook 3, Bri Torres 2, and Yessika Garza 1 kill. Lindsey Herrera had 2 aces, Anan Pompa 3, Shook 1, Martinez 1, and Reyna 1 ace.
Coming up for the freshman team is Antonian on Friday, September 7th and then the Devine Freshman/ JV Tournament on Saturday, September 8th.
