Tuesday, June 20th was Mama’s 98th birthday. She was born June 20, 1919 in Palestine, Texas in Anderson County located in the northeast part of the state. Mama is in the middle of her 10th year at the Devine Health and Rehab, our nursing home here, about a mile from our home.
Since we couldn’t get this year’s birthday picture in because her birthday was yesterday, the picture on the left is one we really like of her 96th birthday party that shows my sister, Donna feeding Mama some of her birthday cake. Donna feeds her breakfast and supper every day. The second picture is the three of us at church one Easter about 7 years ago when Mama was still able to go to church and Triple C on Sundays, then Dixie’s and the Dairy Queen on Fridays.
Unfortunately, Mama has lost many of her teeth and has to have her lunch and supper pureed. She does, however, have a treat for breakfast when we found out one day that she can eat regular pancakes. For breakfast every day, then, Donna feeds her two medium sized pancakes with syrup and butter. Mama is waiting for us every morning for her pancakes and coffee.
Mama has one daughter and son-in-law, Mike and Donna Eshleman; one son, Tommy Weisinger; two grandsons and wives, Larry and Ogechi Eshleman from Pearland, Texas and John and Christa Eshleman from Cypress, Texas; and last, but certainly not least, four great grandchildren, David and Christopher (Pearland) and Liam and Marra (Cypress).
