Devine powerlifters perform well in Castroville

The Devine Warhorse and Arabian Powerlifting teams continue to rack up the hardware. This past weekend each squad competed in Medina Valley’s annual invitational, which hosted over 300 lifters. The Warhorses completed the meet as the 3rd place team, an impressive feat for a team that was only able to utilize five lifters due to illness amongst other competitors.
Kaleb Zertuche placed 5th in the 132lb class with a total of 880lbs, Steven “Bulldog” Ramirez claimed 1st place in the 165lb class with a total 1,475lbs, Lucas Byrd also earned 1st place honors in the 1,81lb class with a total of 1,440lbs, and Christian Arredondo securedthe 3rd place in the 275lb class with a total of 1,415lbs.
Best Lifter awardfor the lightweight divisions (114lbs-165lbs) went to Bulldog and Lucas Byrd won it for the heavyweight division (181lbs-Super Heavyweights).Arabian Jessie Ramirez got 1st in the 148lb class with a total of 705lbs while Paige Coté finished the meet in 4th place in the 181lb class with a total of 825lbs.
Regional record
Bulldog Ramirez broke the regional record of 570lbs in the squat with a lift of 590lbs.He is 5lbs short of the regional total record of 1,480 after his weekend total of 1,475lbs.Along with the regional single-lift record, Bulldogcurrently ranked first in state while fellow senior Lucas Byrd currently ranks second.

An important meet is on the horizon for the Arabian team. Poth is hosting the girls’ final qualifying opportunity Saturday. The Warhorse team will have a few members attend the meet as well. Lift time begins at 9:00am.
