On November 16, the Gold Colts opened their season against Crystal City with a win. A final score of 24-12 showed the Colts were ready to play. Marcus Espinosa scored 8, Robert Russell 5, Joey Blanquiz and Hayden Brumage each had 4 and Bryce Winkler 3.
“Espinosa, Winkler and Russell did a great job dribbling and finding open lanes to drive and pass to open players. Brumage and Blanquiz played great down low on both sides of the court,” stated Coach Lon Cozby.
Playing Crystal City in their first game, the Maroon Colts may have lost but they fought hard the entire game. Only falling in the 4th quarter, “played on defense, you could tell we were a little rusty on offense with our shots…Once our shots start to fall this group will be tough to stop,” said Coach Cozby.
Chris Ortiz had 10 points, Brian Schaefer and Xavier Contreras each had 6, Zach Rico 5 and Jay Solis had 2.
