7th grade Fillys beat Hondo

It was a tough matchup between Hondo and the 7th grade Gold Fillys last Monday, September 10th, but the Fillys fought hard for their win. “The Hondo game for these girls was a tough game, but they needed it. They are really improving on their position on the court. They still need to work on transitioning on and off the net, but they get better every day! So proud of these girls and how they played,” stated Coach Shana Beaty.
Bailey Ornelas and Alanna Monreal led with 7 aces each, assisted by Avery Mobley 5, Mikayla Ramirez 4, Brynlea Byrd 2, and Janell Cornado 1. Mobley led with 3 hits, followed by Ramirez 2, and Pam Cardona and Gabirella Mares with 1 each. Ornelas had 2 assists while Byrd and Mobley each had one. Ramirez and Mobley each had 1 kill.
The Gold Fillys are currently 2-0 this year.
In their second game of the season, the Maroon Fillys beat the Owls in two sets at 25-16 and 25-20. The Fillys have shown a great deal of improvement this early in the season and continue to work hard each and every day at practice. “This game was tough, but very exciting! These girls are very coachable. We did a great job making adjustments as Hondo started to hit more. We still need to work on some things but I am so proud of this win! Great job girls!” said Coach Shana Beaty.
Offensively Kate Featherly had 6 aces, Kody Blanquiz 3, Hilary Barnett, Lizbeth De Los Santos and Rylee Esquibel each had 2, Kelsey Dishman and Brooklyn Miller each had 1. Esquibel had 5 hits, Miller 4, Denise Contreras and Mackayla Schautz each with 3,Zoe Ortiz 2 and Barnett 1. Featherly led with 5 assists, followed by Esquibel with 4 and Miller and Contreras with 1 each.
Defensively, Romero, Barnett and Blanquiz each had 3 digs, followed by Contreras and De Los Santos with 2 each and Miller and Esquibel with 1 each. Contreras led with 3 kills, assisted by Miller with 2 and Schautz and Esquibel with 1 each. Schautz had 1 block.
The Maroon Fillys are currently 2-0 with their home tournament this weekend and Carrizo Springs September 24th.
