We are still hitting around the 50 call a week range, with 53 this past week. Traffic citations issued totaled a whopping 24. Speeding and no insurance both tied at 5 each!
We took a few people to jail this past week, which is what cops should do every now and then. It is great to talk to everyone in the community and drive around waving at everybody but occasionally we have to “throw some people in jail”; it helps us stay grounded. All 3 of our adult arrests occurred over the weekend, the first was at Whataburger. A fellow was in the drive thru when he struck the menu sign. His luck didn’t improve as the officers investigating learned he had a warrant out of Bexar Co. So he went to jail, his truck got impounded and I’m not sure what happened to his food. The second arrest was at H.E.B. Plus, a shoplifter was booked into jail after he tried to take off with a basket that included 6 bottles of wine and 3 18-packs of beer. That’s a nice shoplifting case, no defense that he was just stealing because he was “hungry.” He must have been planning a Dallas Cowboy’s victory party, I guess it got cancelled. The third arrest was for Assault Causing Bodily Injury to a Family Member. Officers responded to an address on Wisdom Rd. and arrested a female for assaulting her husband.
Other police activity included the burglary of a vehicle, an Atascosa Co. EMS employee reported a generator taken out of the bed of his pick-up. Beall’s reported a theft; an unknown male entered the store and filled a Dockers duffle bag with 3 pairs of shoes. He fled the store before officers were able to arrive.
Our National Night Out event went on as scheduled, we were able to avoid rain. I would say the attendance was down a bit from last year but we were still able to serve 60 pizzas. I think everyone had a good time and we had a lot of different groups that helped make it happen. Lytle Parks and Lytle Public Works provided the setup, the Lytle VFW and their auxiliary served the pizza and the LHS Honor Society served chips. The Atascosa Family Crisis Center had a booth as did the Boy Scouts. Cricket Wireless set up too and the Lytle Chamber of Commerce had a big spread of goodies. I passed by the Chamber’s table a couple of times but seeing the Hostess cupcakes baking in the warm sun was just too much, I wasn’t able to resist. Plans are already in the works to make next year’s event even bigger and better.
