Devine Team Tennis played for the Regional Quarter Finals on Tuesday, October 23 at Beeville High School against the LaVernia Bears. The match was originally scheduled for Annemarie Tennis Center but was changed to Beeville in order to find some dry courts. Matches finally got under way around 2:30 pm. The Devine Warhorses and Arabians fought hard but were unable to come away with the win. After the doubles matches, they were ahead 4-3. The singles matches were very close and intense, with 6 matches splitting sets and being decided by a tie breaker. The final score was 8-11, bringing Devine’s Team Tennis season to a close.
“The team never quit and kept fighting up to the very last matches. I am very proud of these athletes. They had very little practice time on the courts due to the unusual rainy month of October. They played Area, and Regional Quarter Finals with only four actual practices on the tennis courts; too many gym practices to count. I am extremely proud of them for keeping their integrity and great sportsmanship throughout the season, always doing their best to represent Devine in a respectful manner. Even though the season ended sooner than they wanted, they have grown to a new level. Looking forward to the Spring!” said Coach Melanie Sostarich.
