Stein, Centilli honored at Devine Little League Opening Day

Margaret Centilli and the family of Rick Stein were honored at Devine Little League’s Opening Day.

Devine Little League had its opening day on Saturday, March 24.
The day began with an opening ceremony. The announcer was Christina Ramirez. President Jesse Hernandez greeted the audience with opening remarks. Tommy Ramirez said the prayer. The 2018 Devine Little League Board Members were announced. Ra’Sean Beaver and Callie Schneider presented the flag to members of the VFW Post 3966, Larry Schroeder, Roland Esquibel, and Thomas McLaughlin; all life time members of the VFW Post. Leighton Martinez sang the National Anthem while the flag was being raised. After that the teams were announced along with their sponsors. There were 24 teams announced. After that the Texas Heat major girls team said the Little League Pledge. Margaret Centilli said the Little League Parents/Managers Pledge.
Margaret Centilli said a few words about Rick Stein who passed away suddenly last May. He got involved with DYSA first then Little League. He was a board member for several years holding many positions on the board. He was also an umpire for high school ball and Little League. A plaque was given to his family in his honor.
Bill Herring gave a speech about Margaret Centilli. He told about her many years as a teacher. He also told about her many years being involved with DYSA as well as Little League. He commended her dedication to the children of this community. A plaque was presented to her for her many years of service to this community.
The Junior girls team who won the Little League District tournament were announced. Bill Herring threw out the first pitch for baseball and Kandy Stein threw out the first pitch for softball. To end the opening ceremony all the coaches and managers gathered on the infield to sing Take Me Out To The Ball Game. The season officially began at noon with the first games.
