When Stacy Pyron was first asked to be a guest on daily variety TV show S.A. Live, she thought it was a joke.
“One of the producers saw me demonstrating some crafting techniques on the Facebook page for my store, The Quilt Shop, and sent a private message asking if I would be willing to come on the show,” Pyron said. “After doing a little Googling to make sure someone wasn’t pulling my leg, of course I said yes.”
At the time, Pyron was co-owner of The Quilt Shop in Castroville, and was a few months into a part-time position at the Driscoll Public Library. In what little spare time she had, Pyron cooked up an idea for fabric succulents, and demonstrated how to make them in her first appearance on S.A. Live on May 25, 2017.
She went on to make three more appearances on the show, and will be on for the fifth time next Monday, April 9, where she’ll be demonstrating Fiesta-themed crafts.
Pyron is an avid quilter, seamstress, and all-around crafter, and since joining the library full time, she has brought her creativity and enthusiasm to a variety of new programming.
“Teen Tech Week was the first thing in a while that the library has aimed specifically to teens, and I was very pleased with the turnout,” Pyron said.
Classes included beginner coding, photojournalism and photo editing, and perler beading, which proved so popular that Pyron taught two more classes the week of Spring Break.
While Pyron wants to continue to draw more teenagers and young adults into the library and help Head Librarian Debi DuBose with the library’s popular summer children’s programming, she hasn’t forgotten about adults.
“I would like to start a book club and a sewing club at some point in the future,” Pyron said, who didn’t begin sewing and quilting until she was 27. “It’s never too late to learn or practice a new skill, and the library is a great place for the people of our community to do that.”
S.A. Live airs weekdays at 1:00 pm on ABC affiliate KSAT 12.
