Routine stuff

Crime took a bit of a holiday this week, and that is perfectly okay with me and pretty much everybody else. Calls for police service only numbered 46….and they were mostly the routine simple stuff.
One trip to jail, that was it. Sgt. Hanson responded to the Yum Market on Main St. for a suspicious person. The person was located, and it was determined that he had two felony warrants out of Bexar Co. One for family violence (impeding breath) and one for assault causing bodily injury to an elderly person. He was booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail. No property crimes were reported this past week.
I would say our Santa’s Vehicle Parade was a success! I think we expected more vehicles (I think we had in 60-70 range), but what I did not expect was all the people that were set up watching us go by. Not only on the side of the road, but in front of homes as well. There were lots of decorations all over town. We had some nicely decorated vehicles in the parade too.
This year, I even put up some lights at the house (well my wife did most the work). We built a manger; we had a live nativity scene in the front yard during the vehicle parade. It was short lived; the wind destroyed the thing on Sunday. A handyman/builder I am not.
It sure is busy around town; Church’s Chicken is getting close to being finished. It sure looks nice; it will be a great addition to H.E.B.’s commercial zone. After a hard day of crime fighting, nothing makes for a good night’s sleep like a mess of fried okra and honey butter biscuits.
We even have four traffic lights now! Yep, the two new ones at 35 & McDonald St. make it official. We doubled traffic lights in one year! It is about time; our residents should be able to wait at red lights just like they do up in the big city.
Saddle Ridge Estates subdivision is really moving along, they are busy putting in utilities and getting ready to work on the roads. You can see some of the progress from the access road of IH-35 by Best Western. When complete, 375 new households will call me their Chief of Police. Well, if not me then somebody…. but I doubt that I am listed as one of the amenities in the sales brochures.
