The Devine Warhorse and Arabian Powerlifters competed at Medina Valley Saturday, February 18. For the Arabians, it was their last qualifying meet before regionals. The boys, however, still have one more shot to qualify for regionals with next week’s meet at Cotulla beginning at 9:00am. The Warhorses placed 3rd overall and had a chance to win it all.
“An injury to Lucas Byrd (who was in 2nd place at the time) and a bomb out by Christian Arredondo (which would have placed him 3rd in his class) kept us out of the running,” stated Head Coach Paul Gomez. “The Cotulla meet is for boys who are close to being in the top 12 so it is an important meet for many lifters.”
Individual medals for the Warhorses: Colton Bean 123lb class 1st place with an 805lb total, Austin Felan 198lb class 2nd place with 1,210lb total, Austin Soto 275lb class 1st place with a 1,660lb total, Diego Hernandez 220lb class 5th place with a 980lb total, Demetrios Monreal 132lb class 1st place with an 865lb total.
“It was a good meet to end the regular season for the girls. We will see what lifters made regionals by the end of this week as the top 12 lifters in each weight class in the region will qualify,” said Gomez.
Individual results for the Arabians: Journey Shoemake 114lb class 5th place with a 545lb total, Kayla Perez 132lb class 3rd place with 470lb total, Celine Samarripa 123lb class 4th place with a 605lb total, Molly Fuller 165lb class 3rd place with a 790lb total, Paige Cote 198lb class 5th place with an 895lb total, Felicitas Diaz 220lb class 4th place with a 655lb total.
