The Natalia Mustang Varsity football team will host John Paul II in Mustang Stadium this Friday as they open their season at home with the first game. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. The Mustangs have had some great moments in their scrimmages and are ready and excited about the game.
Look inside this week’s The Devine News for photos of each Mustang varsity football player and team photos of both the varsity and junior varsity. Also comments and stats on each player from the coaches on their strengths they each bring to the Mustang teams.
“John Paul II had two very good scrimmages already and is a well coached football team. Coach Ed McCabe has done a great job getting his kids prepared each week,” said Mustang Head Football Coach Chad Graves.
“The past three years playing John Paul II has seen some very good football games. They have transitioned from a slot/wing under center team to a shotgun style of offense. They are still running the same schemes, but now from depth. On defense they are a 4-3 cover 2/4 team.”
“Their kids play extremely hard and we are looking forward to a great football game.”
“In order for us to be successful this week we must be physical on both sides of the football. We must force take aways on defense and force them to defend sideline to sideline on offense. We must be content with taking what they are going to give us and move the chains. The team that wins the turnover battle, eliminates penalties, and wins the kicking game will win this football game!”
