Medina County 4H students advance to world congress events

Medina County 4H Horse Judging Senior team members are (l to r) Shelby Simpson, Reese Simpson, Taylor Bendele, and Hannah Vierling.

Students in the Medina County 4-H Judging Club competed in seven different contests this judging season, including contests in Fort Worth, San Antonio, and Houston. We began the 2018-2019 judging year in Fort Worth Texas with the National Cutting Horse Association contest. Our Senior Team placed 5th of 12 teams. This was the first year that High School students were invited to the contest. In December we headed to the Montgomery County contest, where our Senior Team 1 placed 2nd; Senior Team 2 placed 10th; Intermediate Team 1 placed 5th and Intermediate Team 2 placed 7th.
The beginning of 2019 found us in Johnson County where our Senior Team placed 5th overall; the Junior Team placed 1st in Reasons and 2nd in Halter; the Intermediate Team placed 5th in Reasons and the Combo Senior Team placed 5th in Halter.
Over 850 students competed at the San Antonio Livestock and Exposition (SALE) contest in February where our Junior Team placed 3rd and our Senior Team 1 placed 6th. The District 10 contest was held concurrently. March found us in Houston where our Senior Team 1 placed 4th.
District Team Results:
Junior Team – 1st place
Intermediate Team – 1st place
The 1st place win at the Ft. Worth Stock Show by our Senior Team provided them the opportunity to attend AQHA Youth World Congress, APHA Youth World Congress and the Quarter Horse Congress.
How you can help
Each of these judging contests requires travel and hotel expenses in addition to entry fees. Medina County 4-H Judging Club and their parents have raised $485 through bake sales, dog washes, raffles and concessions for other clubs. But, now we need your help!
“Our goal is $30,000, which will fund training materials, travel/flight costs, hotel, and entry fees,” said Jenn Johnson. “Our first contest is June 29th, 2019. Our major expenses will begin in August of 2019. Donations of any amount are appreciated! All donors will be listed in the Medina County 4H newsletter.”
You can donate by contacting Jenn Johnson, Treasurer at 210-825-4433 or mail a donation to 244 PR 1688 Moore, Tx 78057.
