JV Warhorses win doubleheader

In a double header against Somerset and Harlandale, the JV Warhorses won both games big at 12-5 and 9-2.
Playing Somerset first, the Warhorses opened the first inning with 3 runs and held the Bulldogs to 0 until the bottom of the second when the Bulldogs took the lead with four quick runs. Top of the third, with two on Joey Blanquiz hit a double to bring home Xsavior Martinez while Christian Gerlach made it to third. Evan Priest hit a double to center and Gerlach and Blanquiz scored for the lead. The inning ended 6-4 and Somerset was only able to earn one more run while Devine added 6 more in the final two innings.

Joey Blanquiz 2 runs, 2 hits, 3 RBIs. Evan Priest 1 run, 1 hit, 2 RBIs. Carlos Gutierrez 1 hit. Mando Gutierrez 2 runs, 1 stolen base. Pitcher M. Gutierrez threw 70 pitches with 48 strikes.
The game against Harlandale only went to three innings with Devine scoring 3 in the first and 6 in the second and Harlandale only scoring 2 in the first inning.
Hackebeil 1 run, 1 hit, 1 stolen base. Martinez 2 runs, 2 hits, 1 RBI, 1 stolen base. Burford 2 runs, 2 hits, 2 RBIs. Gerlach 1 run, 1 hit. Blanquiz 1 run, 1 hit, 2 RBIs. Priest 1 run, 1 hit. C. Gutierrez 1 hit, 1 RBI. M. Gutierrez 1 run, 2 hits, 2 stolen bases. Pitchers C. Gutierrez threw 15 strikes in 25 pitches. Priest threw 26 total pitches with 17 strikes.
“Our JV team had solid back to back games against Somerset and Harlandale. We hit the ball good and our pitcher did great on the mound. I am proud of the boys for having a record of 5 and 1. We look forward to the Lytle tournament this weekend,” Said Coach Bart Oropeza.
The JV Warhorses will compete in the Lytle JV Tournament this weekend and then in the District JV tournament on March 14th.
