In their first district game of the year, the JV Warhorses beat Carrizo Springs 17-2. Playing at home, the Warhorses were tied 2-2 at the end of the first inning and that was the last inning the Wild Cats would get past the Warhorse defense.
Bottom of the third inning, Eliseo Perez was hit by a pitch, Christian Gerlach singled to left, and then with Jacob Barron at bat, Perez steals home and then Barron singled to allow Gerlach to score. Mando Gutierrez walked followed by a single for Zack Alvarez and Barron crossing home. Gutierrez scored when he stole home for the last run of the inning 6-2.
Bottom of the fourth, Justin Contreras walked and Perez was hit by a pitch. With Gerlach at bat, Contreras steals home and Perez steals third, Gerlach singled. Perez stole home before Darrin Lafferty hit a single to left field and Gerlach crossed home. Lafferty steals and Barron walked. Mason Burford hits a double to right and Lafferty makes it home. Gutierrez is hit by a pitch. Burford steals his way around the bases until he steals home for Devine’s 12th run of the night. Gutierrez steals home while Xsavior Martinez at bat. He would hit a single to left. Contreras walked. Martinez would steal home on Perez’s ball 3. Martinez walked. Gerlach hit a single to short and Contreras scored. Perez steals home again with Isaiah Romero at bat. Burford stepped back to allow Gerlach to steal home in the final run of the night. Devine 17 Carrizo Springs 2.

The JV Warhorses traveled down to Crystal City last Friday night and came back home with a 5-1 win over the Javelinas. With Robert Ramirez and Evan Priest on the mound, the Warhorses held Crystal City to just two hits in the four innings played.
Both teams went scoreless until Brady Hackebeil stole home in the top of the third for Devine’s first run. With Justin Contreras on third and Christian Gerlach on second, Darrin Lafferty was hit by a pitch to load the bases and bring up Jacob Barron. Barron would walk on a 4-0 count and force Contreras home. Kannon Ramirez hit a single to shortstop and Gerlach crossed home, 3-0 at the end of the third. Crystal City would score one run in the bottom of the inning. Priest and Hackebeil would both walk and Xsavior Martinez ground out to the pitcher but Priest made it home. Hackebeil stole home again for the last Devine run of the game. Devine 5 Crystal City 1.

The JV Warhorses are 2-0 in district and 10-2 overall. They will play at home against C.C. Winn Friday night and then against Hondo at home April 2nd.
