Homecoming parade Saturday

Officers handled 64 calls this past week and issued citations for 33 traffic violations. Two arrests were made, yes the gas shortage eased up and the current gas bill won’t come in until the new budget year (Oct. 1) so I gave the go ahead to take people to jail. The first arrest was from a traffic stop, the driver had a couple warrants (One each from Bexar Co. and Medina Co.) so he was transported to the Medina Co. Jail. The second arrest was a bit more interesting, officers were dispatched to Sonic for a report of a male subject who appeared to be locked in the men’s room and screaming. Officers got him out and he admitted to using heroin. Further investigation resulted in him being arrested for public intoxication and possession of marijuana. He was taken to the hospital and checked out before being booked in the Atascosa Co. Jail.
We had two property crimes reported this past week. A vehicle was burglarized on Adams St. The complainant reported a wallet was taken. The second incident occurred near the north end of the city limits on Railroad St. While investigating a “missing cow” call Ofc. David Lopez drove upon two fellows who were loading their pickup with items from a vacant house. The items were recovered and the case is under investigation.
It is parade time in Lytle! Yep this coming Saturday (Sept. 16) is the Home Coming Parade. It starts at 10 AM at Lytle city hall and will head down Main St. and end at Main & FM 2790 N. It is a good chance to get some free candy and wave at a bunch of people. Most likely there will be a lot of important people there but not the kind you would want an autograph from or have your picture taken with.
The fun doesn’t end with the parade this year. Immediately following the parade the city will unveil the new park sign and dedicate a flag pole. This will occur at the Somerset St. entrance to John Lott Park. This is what we call a “double shot” ceremony. Refreshments will be served following this ceremony, so that is another reason to show up if the anticipation of the sign unveiling is not enough to get you fired up.
But it doesn’t end there either, yep the fun rolls on. Starting at 1 PM there will be inflatable rides for the kids along with music and vendors in the city park.
I’ll probably be riding my bicycle during the parade as usual, I was looking to rent a rickshaw and have Lt. Dear pull me around but I thought it may be a bit too much and I don’t want to distract attention from all the floats.
