DMS cross country runs well in Hondo

Jack Schneider finished 13th with a time of 14:27.

Three hundred seventeen 7th and 8th grade participants competed in last Saturday’s Hondo Cross Country Invitational at the Hondo Golf Course. Thirty-one of those represented Devine Middle School and themselves quite nicely.
The 8th grade Fillys finished in 2nd place with 61 points while first place honors went to Pleasanton with 34 points. The 7th grade Fillys finished in 4th place with 94 points, trailing 3rd place Medina Valley (69), 2nd place Bandera (46), and overall winner Pleasanton (24).
The 7th grade Colts ran to a 3rd place overall finish with 109 points behind 2nd place Lytle (89) and 1st place Hondo (78). The 8th grade Colts had four competitors, which is not enough to score team points.
Each of the runners did their absolute best and that is what the coaches ask them to do each day at practice and during the meet. There were some nerves at the beginning of the race, which is normal, but those nerves will slowly go away as the season progresses. Each of the teams have a great chance in future meets to catch those individuals and teams that finished ahead of them last week.
