The Devine High School tennis teams competed at the Knippa tournament on Saturday, March 25th winning the Varsity division.
Girls Singles:
Lindsey Spannagel won second place by beating Sabinal 6-0, 6-0 and Knippa 6-0, 6-3 but lost to Briana Sanchez (Sabinal) 2-6, 1-6.
Chloe Serafin lost to Leaky 0-6, 6-7 (7-4), beat Moreno (Carrizo Springs) 6-2, 6-0 and K. John (Carrizo Springs) 6-2, 6-0 winning consolation.
Boys Singles:
Mason Zenon lost to Knippa 1-6, 0-6 and Carrizo Springs 2-6, 1-6.
Jaime Garza took third place beating Knippa (Nueces Canyon) 6-2, 6-1, lost to S. Medina (Sabinal) 3-6, 2-6 and beat P. Higgins (D’Hanis) 6-1, 4-6 (10-4).
Girls Doubles:
Lydia Zapata/Scarlett Smith beat Nueces Canyon 6-2, 6-0, lost to Knippa 2-6, 0-6 and lost to Quisenberry/Lopez (Devine) 0-6, 0-6.
Preslee Quisenberry/Ariel Lopez won third place by beating Knippa 6-2, 6-1 and Sabinal 6-4, 6-4. They lost to Keeney/Keeney (Utopia) 0-6, 0-6 and beat Zapata/Smith 6-0, 6-0.
Boys Doubles:
Ralph Rios/Colton Bean won second place. They beat Sabinal 7-5, 6-2 and Knippa 6-3, 6-7 (7-9) (10-6), lost to Langfeld/Koch (D’Hanis) 3-6, 6-3 (8-10).
Jake Harrell/Toby Ramos won third place. They beat Brackettville 6-4, 7-6 (10-6), beat Leakey 0-6, 6-2 (10-7), lost to D’Hanis 2-6, 3-6 and beat Knippa 6-2, 3-6, 10-8.
Mixed Doubles:
Tristan Woods/Julia Harrell won first place. They beat Carrizo Springs 6-1, 6-0, Utopia 6-1, 6-0, Leakey 4-6, 6-3 (10-1) and Utopia 6-1, 6-3.
The next tournament will be Friday and Saturday, March 31st and April 1st in Uvalde. District is set for April 3rd and 4th also in Uvalde.
