The first meeting of the Current Events Club’s new season was held in the home of Carol Crouch on Tuesday, September 11, with Mary Howard and Jane Harrison as co-hostesses. The meeting began with a luscious array of refreshments.
The business meeting focused on previewing the program books and activities of the coming year. A Charity Gala will be held at the Community Center on February 16, 2019, to raise money to fund the local charities the club supports. Another drawing is also planned.
The club gathered blankets, towels and animal toys for the Devine Animal Shelter. The members voted to contribute $250 to the Shelter. Jane Harrison will deliver the check and items.
Also, members voted to contribute $500 to HANK, Inc. The non-profit organization (Helping Abused & Neglected Kids) serves the abused and neglected kids of Medina, Uvalde, & Real Counties. One of the homes for children is located in Devine.
A “Getting to Know You” Bingo activity offered a fun and interesting insight to members and their interests, likes and activities.
The meeting concluded with the reading of “A Prayer for the Anniversary of 9/11” by the Reverend Jeremy Pridgeon and the singing of the “Star Spangled Banner.”
