He was also a full time employee at McDonald’s in Castroville; however, his life came to a halt on July 6, 2016 when he was taken to the hospital with several stomach pain and internal bleeding. He was then admitted due to low blood count and was given a blood transfusion. He went on to have a liver biopsy, upper GI endoscopy and esophageal varies. As the doctors performed an MRI to locate his internal bleeding they discovered Nicolas had severe damage to his liver.
On September 9, 2016 Nicolas went to see a Liver Specialist and was given the horrible news that he has stage 4 cirrhosis/liver failure caused by Autoimmune Hepatitis. Unfortunately at the time of his diagnosis he did not have medical insurance and he has been to the hospital on several occasions to have procedures done. Due to the intense fatigue and illness caused by the disease, Nicolas can no longer work or attend school. This benefit was created to help assist with his on-going medical treatment and expenses.
