Autumn theme at Current Events Club meeting

Autumn abounded in decorations, refreshments and the program at the Current Events Club’s meeting in the home of Sandy Beck on November 14. Wendy Carr and Glenda Allen assisted Sandy as hostesses.
The program was presented by Linda Cole, a retired public school teacher, who teaches classes to children who attend the field trips at Devine Acres. On display were eight varieties of pumpkins including the Casper, Turban, Cinderella, Pie, Mini, Jacks, Jerrahdale, and the Wart Goblin or Knucklehead. Linda discussed the varieties, the life cycle, the history, and the many uses of the pumpkin.
The Club is busy planning the Valentine Charity Ball which will be held at the George S. Woods Community Center on Saturday, February 10. Tickets for a drawing will be available soon for a 65-inch TV for which the winner will be drawn the night of the Ball. Also, many items will be available at the silent auction. All proceeds from the auctions, drawing and dance will be used for the charitable causes of the club including the high school scholarship.
Club members voted to contribute $300 to the Devine Food Pantry with individual members contributing an additional $200.
