Connie Keown Tincher, 100

Connie Keown Tincher, 100, of Bloomington, passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2023 at her home.
Her services were held at 12noon on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at Beck Memorial Home with Pastor Becky Barrow officiating. Following services burial was held at Blooming Grove Cemetery, Bloomington. Visitation was held Tuesday from 10am-12noon at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Bloomington Salvation Army.
Connie was born August 16, 1923 in New Orleans, LA, the daughter of Audie C. and Mae Martin Powell. She married Curt Keown on July 29, 1943. He preceded her in death on May 24, 1991. She later married Donald E. Tincher, July 6, 2003. He preceded her in death on November 12, 2015.
She is survived by her son, Ira Curt (Donna) Keown Sr., Devine, TX; two grandsons, Curt Keown, Bloomington; and Jason (Mel) Keown, Devine, TX; a great grandson, Vincent Lilly and a great granddaughter, Madison (Cade Brolliar-Singh) Keown. Also surviving is her sister Carol Crow, Bloomington and sister-in-law, Janet Hoog, Bloomington.
Connie was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; her daughter, Linda Sue Keown; granddaughter, Linda Mae Lilly; Five brothers and two sisters.
Connie graduated from ISU earning her BS and MA degrees. She taught in the Bloomington public schools and ISU Fairchild Hall.
She was a member of Waynesville United Methodist Church and was a life member of the Devine, Texas VFW Women’s Auxiliary.

COVID-19 is picking up again. Guess we thought we could start school off without it this year but it is just too good at staying alive and changing itself. Luckily, it’s not the more severe virus we started the pandemic with. The Omicron strain was found in November 2021 and has had many changes. The variant XBB.1.5 was the dominant strain in the U.S. this summer. EG.5 is one of the newest Omicron variants accounting for about 20% of U.S. cases last week and there’s another variant already being watched. So far, the current variants are not causing any more severe symptoms than what we have been seeing with other variants.

The Medina County Hospital District Appoints New Board Member

Hondo, Texas, August 28, 2023 – The Medina County Hospital District is pleased to announce the appointment of one new board member, Mary E. Mangold. The Medina County Hospital District Board of Directors is composed of seven elected directors. Four directors are elected by the voters in the four county precincts, and three directors are elected at-large. Mary E. Mangold was appointed as Director at Large, Place 5 during the Board of Director’s meeting on Monday, August 28th, 2023.

Devine school board asks voters for VATRE Tax rate and $11.2 Million bond election date set for Nov. 7

At its monthly meeting Monday, August 21, DISD Board of Trustees unanimously voted to call for a $11.255 million bond election and a voter-approval tax ratification election (VATRE) for Tuesday, November 7, 2023.

1st Annual Angels in the Fairway Golf Tournament Announced

The Devine Golf Course will be the site of the 1st Annual Angels in the Fairway Golf Tournament on September 23rd, 2023 with registration beginning at 9a.m. and a shot gun start at 11a.m.
The entry fee is $150 per player which includes the green fee, cart and lunch. The format is 4 person scramble (red & white tees only). The first place payout is $1,600, second place is $1,200 and third place $600.
The tournament is a fundraiser for the Samantha Buvinghausen scholarship fund, the Dillon Burleson Memorial and the Jacob Sanchez Scholarship. All were proud members of DHS class of 2006.

Class of 1963 Reunion Brunch set for Oct. 14th at Charlie’s Daughter in Devine

Gaining Empathy

I was visiting recently with an exceptional person who has allowed me the honor to be a mentor during a transitional period of life. Highly effective in their chosen profession, both as a Practitioner AND Leader, a change in senior level administration of their organization with a different vision sort of forced a decision to retire.

Odds and Ends

This past week was a fun and relaxing one for me. Since I was hostess at our bunco club, I spent part of Monday and Tuesday making some of the food that I was planning to serve. That evening, I decided to load anything that didn’t to be kept cool in my car to get a head start, so Wednesday morning all I had left to load was the stuff that went into an ice chest. It sure did save me a bunch of time that morning and I managed to get away from home by 8:30 a.m.
