Arabians bring in 22 runs in Crystal City

In their second win of the week, the Varsity Arabians beat Crystal City 22-1 in five innings. “We got off to a great start Friday night down in Crystal City as senior Julie Ortiz leads off the game with a triple to right center field. Despite multiple walks and hit by pitch at bats, we still managed to rack up 15 hits and 18 RBI’s on the night. Defensively we had another strong outing making plays behind junior pitcher Isabella Gutierrez who threw 5 complete innings,” said Coach Juan Gonzalez.
The Arabians scored 9 runs in the first inning alone started but an Ortiz triple. Jeanette Rios walked and Kendall Arche was hit by a pitch to load the bases. On a foul ball, Ortiz stole home, then Jessie Ramirez hit a ground ball to shortstop, and Rios crossed home. Megan Runyan walked to fill the bases again. Allison Taylor singled to left and Arche scored. With Halle Hagdorn at bat, Runyan and Taylor stole bases. Isabella Gutierrez came in to run for Catcher Taylor. Hagdorn singled and Runyan scores followed by Gutierrez. Arieana Ramirez walked and Mackenzie Schneider was hit by a pitch to load the bases again. Ortiz walked and forced Hagdorn home. Rios hit a sacrifice fly to bring home A. Ramirez. Arche was hit by a pitch. J. Ramirez hit another sacrifice fly and Schneider scored. Runyan grounds out to end the inning 9-0. Top of the second, Hagdorn walked, A. Ramirez doubles, and Schneider grounds out to bring home Hagdorn for the only run of the inning.
Top of the third. Rios walked and then stole second, Arche singled a fly ball and Rios crossed home. J. Ramirez hit a triple to center field and brought home Arche. J. Ramirez scored on a wild pitch. Devine 13 Crystal City 1. Top of the fourth, 2 outs, Ortiz on third, Arche singled and Ortiz scored. Top of the fifth, 1 out, Ortiz single to load the bases with Schneider on second and Hagdorn on third. Rios walked and forced home Hagdorn. Arche hits a big double to center and Schneider and Ortiz score. Another single from J. Ramirez and Rios scored. With Runyan at bat, Arche steals home and J. Ramirez advanced to third. Taylor was hit by a pitch to load the bases again. Hagdorn hit a pop fly and J. Ramirez scored. 2 outs. Schneider hit a line drive to left and Runyan and Gutierrez (in for Taylor) score the last two Arabian runs of the game. Devine wins 22-1.

Taylor 2 hits, 2 RBIs. 1 SB. Hagdorn 3 runs, 2 hits, 2 RBIs. McClellan 1 run, 1 hit. A. Ramirez 1 run, 1 hit. Schneider 2 runs, 21 hit. 3 RBIs. 1 SB. Gutierrez 2 runs, 1 SB. Pitching for Devine was Gutierrez with 49 strikes in 75 pitches.
The Arabians are now 11-13 overall and 3-0 in district. They will play Hondo at home Tuesday night and then travel to Carrizo Springs Friday March 5th.
