“Wineing Artist” guest speaker at Current Events Club meeting

Hostesses Mary Howard (l) and Carol Crouch (r) are shown with guest speaker Shannon Terry at the September Current Events Club meeting.

The “Wineing Artist,“ Shannon Terry, was the guest speaker at the Current Events Club on September 12 in the home of Carol Crouch. After refreshments of sandwiches, chips, and key lime pie served by Carol and co-hostess Mary Howard, Shannon shared the process and some of the paintings created at her painting classes. As Shannon said, “Something wonderful occurs when a group of people get together and feel free to have fun with paint. Add a glass of wine and it’s positively festive.”
The painting classes are held at Deep Creek Depot in Hondo, Hill Country Cellars Winery in Bandera, or various other venues including individual homes. The art instructor guides the class through each step of the painting process.
During the business meeting, the club discussed their support of the “Pass it on Prom Dresses,” which provides gently used prom dresses for High School girls to wear at their Junior-Senior Prom. In May the club donated $300 to the project and will support the project for this spring.
The club voted to donate $75 to the Devine High School Journalism Department to support the student’s activities. Debi Petty, DHS journalism teacher, had compiled the Club Yearbook for a number of years and club members wished to thank her and students for their contributions.
In February the club will sponsor a charity event to raise money for the list of local and county projects to which the group donates, including the Driscoll Public Library, Mission Devine, Medina County Family Life Center, HANK. Inc., the Food Pantry, the Gift of Hope, Wings and Reins, Devine High School FCCLA and a DHS senior scholarship.
