Memorial Day commemoration and flag retirement ceremony May 29

Devine’s VFW Post 3966 and Boy Scout Troop 72 are honored to host Devine’s 3rd Annual Memorial Day Commemoration and Flag Retirement Ceremony on Monday, May 29 at 9:30 am. We will be honoring those who gave all, and remembering those who sacrificed and served. We will also be retiring worn American flags for our community. When the U.S. flag becomes worn or faded, it is important to take it down and properly dispose of it. The U.S. flag code states that when the flag “is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, [it] should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.” Troop 72 considers it an honor to properly retire American flags with dignity. We will be asking active and retired military members to help us as part of our ceremony.
Please join us this year as we remember once again. Memorial Day, Monday, May 29th at 9:30 am, at the VFW at 211 W. College Avenue, Devine.
Troop 72 will be collecting old, worn out and tattered flags so that they can give the flags a proper retirement. Flags can be dropped off at the VFW Post in Devine at 211 W. College Ave. For more information or to arrange for pickup, call 210-232-7803 and leave a message.
