Medina County: Beloved SA football player killed in tragic accident

On January 12 around 7:45 am the call came in for yet another tragedy on Medina County roadways. A young man, just 17 years old, lost his life in the accident after striking a rock embankment. The accident happened just two miles east of Mico on County Road 1283.
According to DPS, “A 2003 Toyota Camry driven by Shomari Saranyu Aman Anderson, 17, of San Antonio was traveling north on FM 1283 and approaching a curve. For reasons not yet known, Mr. Anderson’s car veered into the southbound lane at the curve then left the roadway where it struck a rock embankment and rolled over. Mr. Anderson wasn’t wearing his seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation is ongoing, and all contributing factors are currently unknown. The Texas Department of Public Safety would like to remind all drivers to control your speed, minimize distractions, don’t drive fatigued, obey traffic control devices and always wear your safety belt. The crash report can be obtained at Texas.gov once the investigation is completed.”
Anderson was well loved by his football teammates, friends, family, and community at Harlan High School in San Antonio, who will remember him as a very outgoing, loving, caring young man. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all affected by this terrible accident.
