Thanks to a sizable contribution from South Texas Rangel Foundations of Natalia, the Driscoll Public Library is pleased to be able to host Mad Science for our end of the summer program. The program will be held Wednesday, July 26 @ 1:00 pm in the community center.
Mad Science is a spectacular science-themed show designed to amaze and entertain audiences. Children learn about science when they see foggy dry ice storms, float on a Mad Science hovercraft, watch a foam factory at work, discover Bernoulli’s principle, make magic mud, alter sound waves, and so much more! We will also be announcing the winners of our Reading Challenge prizes on this day and announce our top readers and medalists.
The Summer Reading Challenge is still going, with the deadline on Friday, July 21st. Logs may be picked up at the circulation desk in the library. This year all logs are time based and will require that kids read 300 minutes (5 hrs.) per log. With each completed log, kids receive a raffle ticket to be placed in the raffle for a prize they want to win. Prize packages are on display in the library. The reader will receive a white medal for three completed logs, a red medal for five completed logs, and a blue medal for eight completed logs. All medalists will be recognized at our end of summer program and in The Devine News.
Wednesday, July 5th and continuing through August 9th (with the exception of July 26th), Afternoons @ the Movies will return. Movies begin promptly at 1:00 pm and all children will be provided with a snack and a drink.
Preschool story time continues through the summer on Tuesdays @ 10:30. This time is open to kids up to the age of 5. A story will be read and a craft or activity will be done by the kids.
We have had a great summer so far and all the staff at the Driscoll Public Library is excited about the programs to come. All our programs are free to area families however donations are welcome.
